RULES TO FORM "ING"

If the verb ends in the vowel "e",  remove the "e" and "ing" is added.            Examples: write - writing     smile - smiling     have - having

If the verb ends in double "ee", just add "ing"                                      Examples: agree - agreeing  flee - fleeing   see - seeing

* If the verb ends in "ie", change the "ie" by "y" and add "ing"                        Examples: die - dying   tie - tying    lie - lying

* If the verb has only one syllable and it ends in "consonant- vowel- consonant", double the last consonant and add "ing"                                                          Examples:  run - running    stop - stopping    sit - sitting

*If the verb has two syllables and is stressed in the first syllable only add "ing"    Exampes: answer - answering   offer - offering   listen - listening   visit - visiting

*If the verb has two syllables and is stressed in the second syllable and it ends in  "consonant- vowel- consonant", double the last consonant and add "ing"    Examples:   admit - admitting   prefer - preferring   begin - begining

*For many verbs we make the ING form by simply adding -ING to end of the verb.     Examples: eat - eating    speak - speaking   cook - cooking
